HERMOSA, Bataan – The Municipal Government of Hermosa led by Municipal Mayor Jopet Inton on Saturday joined the 1 Million Tree for 1Bataan (1M41B) Challenge in Barangay Mabiga here.
Mayor Inton was joined by municipal employees and local officials, various concerned sectors and agencies including the Bataan PNP headed by Police Senior Supt. Marcelo Dayag.
Last September 17 of this year, the Provincial Government of Bataan headed by Governor Abet Garcia launched this project that challenges residents to plant and grow one million trees.
“The people of Hermosa fully supports this 1Million Trees for 1Bataan that aims to encourage Bataeños to plant more trees and help our beloved province in empowering environmental responsiveness,” Mayor Inton told this reporter in a phone interview.
The project is being implemented in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-Bataan) headed by PENRO Raul Mamac and the Bataan Sangguniang Kabataan Federation.
Aside from the massive tree-planting activity, residents were also encouraged to submit a geo-tagged photo documentation for a chance to win various prizes.
The benefits of planting a single tree goes from simple aesthetic appreciation to the complex production of carbon dioxide and oxygen through transpiration which is essential to all living things. In large quantity, CO2 traps heat in the atmosphere consequently making the surroundings warmer, this is known as the greenhouse effect which is now an alarming problem as it is causing severe changes in the climate thus affecting all life forms. Hence, it is imperative for people to plant trees as it can sequester 48 pounds (per year) of CO2 and other particulates harmful to humans aside from the fact that it produces the air we breathe.
