How to Equip Discipline
How to Equip Discipline Shirley B. Samaniego Teacher-III Roosevelt Elementary School Beyond the discipline of the home and the school all have to meet the stern discipline of life. How to meet this wisely is a lesson that should be made plain to every child and to every youth. The following are some steps: Teach the youths and children to meet bravely the trouble and burdens they have in life. Give them sympathy; let it never be such as to foster self-pity. Stimulates and strengthen their good traits rather than the weak ones. Show them how to be strong for they are called to endure hardness and difficulties as good soldiers. Teach them that the true test of character is found in the willingness to bear burdens, to take the hard place, to do the work that needs to be done, though it bring no earthly rewards but in heaven alone. Let the child and the youth be taught that every mistake, every fault, every difficulties conquered, becomes a stepping stone to better and higher things. It is through these experiences that discipline can be equipped and strengthened therefore success can be achieved in every endeavor that they will tackle in life.
BENEFITS OF GOOD WORK ATTITUDE
BENEFITS OF GOOD WORK ATTITUDE Maria Fe B. Visda T-III Tucop Elementary School Most of the time teachers are given too much paper works that could make them feel exhausted. Some doing it for compliance, some feel it is their duty , some feel they are being paid for it , in short there are those who do not like what they are doing and things are just being treated as part of their job. Improving on how to react in every situation is necessary in order to find enjoyment and satisfaction in every little accomplishment. You can better prepare in every task if you have the right attitude. If you like what you are doing, take deliberate care of doing it well, the result will reward you with a feeling of a job well done and that will keep you going with the right attitude for the next and every task you will undertake. If you have positive work attitude you will have the ability to turn every challenge into an opportunity and will be able to make less than ideal situations into better ones. That is why it is important for the teachers to cultivate a good work attitude. How? First, prepare for the day’s activity, expect that you will always have an extra work to be done. Second, perform your work with passion and enthusiasm. Next, look for the good in every challenging situation. Lastly, always keep in mind that a happy worker is a more successful worker. Positive attitude will always lead to positive relationship with co-workers, and eventually will result to a happy workplace where everyone agrees to help and support one another.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT : A MUST FOR A SUCCESSFUL TEACHERS
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT : A MUST FOR A SUCCESSFUL TEACHERS Maria Fe B. Visda T-III Tucop Elementary School We know for a fact that effective classroom management is the key to keeping the classroom and pupils under control. And if everything inside the classroom is under control success follows. A teacher knows that it is not easy to gain students attention and transmit knowledge easily. He / she needs to use some strategies to manage his/her classroom and his/her students. And one of the best ways to manage the classroom is to impose discipline among the students. Clearly communicate rules, goals and expectations and respond to behaviors consistently and predictably. A teacher must be firm but loving , if the students know their limits it will be easy for them to have fun and happily engage with their classmates during discussion. Establishing a group behaviour management plan that incorporates individual needs is very important. Using of more positive reinforcement, and preferring to work with the group and giving attention and time to those who are experiencing difficulty can also be associated with student success. Another is time management, a teacher should always be ready with his/her lessons including the materials to be used before he/she enters the room. If the teacher is well prepared the pupils will be able to do the activities smoothly without being distracted or out of control. In this way the goal for a particular lesson will be achieved on time. Individual difference and strengths should be respected in the classroom, which means the teacher creates an atmosphere of mutual respect where students feel safe in expressing concerns or asking questions. Reminding the students on how they will treat one another is also important. Group activities will help students rely on one another to complete a task and to learn to work collaboratively. In this way no student will be left behind ,everyone will be doing his/her part. Lastly, always be consistent and fair and let your students know that you mean what you say.
IMPORTANCE OF STUDENTS DISCIPLINE
IMPORTANCE OF STUDENTS DISCIPLINE Maria Fe B. Visda T-III Tucop Elementary School The reason why sometimes teachers have difficulties in making the students to learn is because they have problems on the discipline inside the classroom. Students’ discipline is a constant challenge to the teachers. Rule –breaking and violating the implicit norms or expectations are the usual problem behaviors encountered by the teachers. In this case, the teachers need spend more time and energy to manage the classroom to retain the smoothness of teaching and learning of the whole class. But there are always reasons why student discipline can be a problem inside the classroom. One is that when student feels he cannot possibly live up to any expectation. This student misbehaved because he feels incapable of functioning during teaching and learning situation. Even those who are hungry , sick or victims of stressful situations in the family may demonstrate troubling classroom behaviour. Or sometimes the cause of students misbehaviour is the teaching style of teacher. If the methods used by teachers are not suited to the abilities of students, the latter may withdraw out of frustration because they may not feel challenge enough to participate in the discussion. In situation like this, it is important that the teacher organizes , his/her class and creates an environment that fosters learning. The teacher should assess the student needs so that he/she will be able to address the problem. Teaching –learning situation should be filled with purposeful activities where all learners will be able to participate and will learn through first-hand experience. Students are more willing to learn when there are fun activities with lots of interaction. Therefore, one of the best ways to discipline the students is to make them feel that they need to work on things compelled by the teacher so that they will not divert their attention on nonsense activities inside the classroom. And if the teacher will be able to handle the discipline in his/her class, it will be easy to foster learning among the students. There are findings showing that the program could promote holistic youth development and reduce adolescent substance abuse and delinquent behavior [22–24]. It would be interesting to see whether the program can lessen classroom misbehavior in the long run.
KEEPING A HEALTHY CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
KEEPING A HEALTHY CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT Maria Fe B. Visda T-III Tucop Elementary School A classroom environment is more than just physical space that class occupies. In order for the students to do well in school , they need to feel they are physically , emotionally and intellectually safe inside the classroom. A warm , safe and caring environment allows students to “influence the nature of the activities they undertake, engage seriously in their study, regulate their behaviour, and know of the explicit criteria and high expectations of what they are to achieve” (Queensland Department of Education, 2005). We can’t deny the fact that it is too hard for the teachers to create and keep an environment that promotes healthy choices for the students. But if they are willing and committed to do so they should take every possible measure. Like for instance, emphasize that the classroom is a safe , healthy environment for all students and no one has the right to take that away from anyone. Arrange the chairs in order for the students to meet social needs and be able to move freely . The teacher should always have direct instruction to provide more stimulating activities. Provide group building activities in which the students will be able to interact with each other. Attempt to give as little emotional response as possible to inappropriate behaviour. Make responses to appropriate behaviour like praises so that they will feel that they are appreciated in little things they do. From time to time the teacher must review the rules and procedures of the classroom so that it will be remembered by the students and will be able to adhere to them. The teacher must also use simple verbal reprimands when misbehaviour occurs. And most importantly , the teacher must be the model of being the positive person that is worthy to emulate for.
MAKING THE CHILD READY TO LEARN
MAKING THE CHILD READY TO LEARN Maria Fe B. Visda T-III Tucop Elementary School It can be difficult for a child to learn if he/she is not ready. A child can be stressed-out if they will be insisted to absorb the lesson or situation which they do not understand. There are several ways on how to help children make ready or learn easily. One of the best ways to prepare the child and arouse his/her interest is by providing him/her fun experiences. Fun activities with lots of interaction can help the child sustain his/her interest to learn. When the child realizes that learning can be fun he/she will look forward to learn instead of dreading it. Inside the classroom , teachers may use different strategies and techniques like games, role playing, story- telling which are suited to the abilities of the children. Using of colourful charts, drawings and flashcards can also catch the children’s attention. If the children will be interested, they will become active and willing to learn. Moreover, active learning improves children’s understanding and retention and can be very effective in developing higher order thinking skills. It is also important that the teachers have clear set of procedures because if the children know exactly what they are expected to do , they will become systematic and organized. At home , parents may use soft wares to teach their children and learning time can also be a bonding time. Making the children ready to learn requires a focus and time. Setting their minds would require consistent intellectual effort and patience but it is worth it. We can tend to over-think how to go about preparing the children but improving their attitude towards learning can come through all kinds of simple activities that will make them interested. Thus, giving them ample opportunity to engage themselves in learning situations will make them ready to learn.
